MAKE was commissioned by Auckland Council for this challenging project to retrofit the Auckland Art Gallery Café.
The brief was to give the café a sense of identity but also to provide excellent acoustics/lighting design. Taking on board the surrounding context of Albert Park and the sculptural tree canopies, we conceptualised the use of timber veneer acoustic panels to create experiences of texture, depth and shadows on the walls.
The design immerses the café as part of the forest, bringing the trees into the café as a cohesive space.
Currently under detailed design, due to commence construction late this year/early next year.
